Six sentence story ( Narrative Writing )

In narrative writing this week, for part of our planning we had to write a six sentence story about anything. I am blogging this because I thought it was a cool idea to do it a part of planning.

Once upon a time there lived a Lion Robot. He lived under the zoo in a huge lab filled with lots of cool gadgets. He would wake up every morning and fight crime with his extra bad lion breath. But one day his breath smelt nice and clean. Lion Robot kept breathing but it just wouldn't work, he left the crime very unhappy. That night he decided to eat really disgusting food like rotten eggs and rotten tomatoes.

Bank Train Heist

Over the past few weeks we have been learning how to write a news article. We were split into two groups, a purple and green. The purple group which I was in got to chose a made up or real news article. I am blogging this because I am really proud of it and I worked so hard on it. It was also new to me because I can't remember writing one in the past.
Below is the our success criteria that we helped design
Success Criteria
Catchy headline
Past tense
No personal pronouns
Intro, body and conclusion (paragraphs)
Direct speech
Different sentence starters/lengths
Good word choice

Bank Train Heist

On the 20th of August 12:08 am 1926 a train in Briningham holding $7.2 million dollars was robbed by fifteen armed robbers. The robbers ran into the train during the night with masks on and handguns in there long jackets.

"Two names have been revealed" said Sergeant Angel on live radio.  “Mark Times and Richard
Barker". Investigators say that all the robbers had recently been fired from Birmingham train station for mucking around and not turning up. Scott Charles the boss of the station said that the company had been getting sick of the men mucking around and not turning up. The two men caught have not given any information about any other robbers.

The train station and the bank are very upset with this devastating loss. The police and investigators are still trying to find these men. Tasha Leonard said to police this morning that someone was apparently running across Leonard’s crop paddock last night at 6:08pm but was too far away from her. Tasha says he was carrying something large which looked like a shotgun.

Scene Description

I chose to blog this because I am really proud of it and I worked hard on it. Below the photo is the success criteria. Before we finished our writing we had to compare our writing with the success criteria. My writing goal is to use complex sentences more frequently and I have included an example of this in here.

Success Criteria
Has strong adjectives
Different sentence beginnings
Different sentence lengths
A simile and/or alliteration
Has an introduction, body and conclusion
Thoughtful word choices
Use complex sentences more frequently.

I turn around and in front of my eyes I see the most amazing scene. Soft golden spotted fur glows in the sunlight. Sienna brown trees in the background have been blurred out like a painting. The trees are coloured peru by of the sunset. Two stranded cheetahs lay in the dry dirty russet grass inspecting the land around them for prey. The cheetahs will wait for the innocent prey to be in sight; they will stay down low in the meantime.
Overall this scene is a great shot of the world's fastest living creature.

Art Blog

WALT create and share quality blog posts
Rimu Success Criteria
QUALITY BLOG POSTS (LEARN, CREATE, SHARE!):
  • Explain what it is about - the learning, why you’re blogging it
  • Interesting start - talk to your audience (like Bella C)
  • Language of Success (spelling, punctuation, correct English)
  • Multimedia (videos, apps, photos, word art, audio, slides...)
  • Title, labels
  • Green on the tracking sheet

In week 9 we are going to have an art exhibition. Everybody in the school has been working on a piece of art. This art represents me and my brothers getting up to mischief and pulling things out of washing machine. I chose to do this piece of art because I really love penguins.

What I found challenging was getting the paint right ( the right colour and in the right place ). What was successful for me was getting it done to my personal best.

This is my QR code that  I have created with various apps on the computer.  The QR code is of me reading a description of my penguin art that you can see on my art blog post.

Download the app on the IPad " QR Reader " to listen to my recording.

I am very proud of my art.

Line Graph

I am blogging this because I spent lots of time on it and I am proud of it. The challenging part of the task was getting the dots in the right place. The good thing about it is that I got it done to my personal best, plus it was hard.

This line graph is showing the data of the mean yearly rainfall in between the 1981 and 2010 period. We were learning to make a line graph.

Reflections (Weeks 2,3,4)

In this blog post we were learning to Reflect on our learning in the past week, but I decided to put in the blog post 3 reflections from the past three weeks. I am posting this because I think it is a really cool idea and I am proud of the reflections that I have done.

Week 2 Reflection by Hugh
WALT reflect on our learning
Write your reflection about these three headings this week Use the prompts and questions as a guide.

  1. My Learning I am proud of my literacy poem because I think I worked really hard on it and I am proud of it. I enjoyed learning more and more about Lorde and also watching all the videos. What I found challenging was taking the notes from all the texts we got given.

  1. Learning Buddy
I am good at being there for him if he need's help. I reckon he is good at getting things on the tracking sheet.  He has lately been awesome with his attitude and has been respecting me like an awesome learning buddy.

  1. Managing Self-Time
I am going very well with my tracking sheet. I am on number 4 on the self management rubric. I am moving away when I am getting distracted by friends more often than last term. I spend my time wisely and try to get most of my work done.
