Dear Adelle,

Thank you for taking up your time and coming to camp with us. You were a great parent. I enjoyed the baking that you helped us with in the Amazing Race. The fudge was the best.

You were a great judge in Masterchef for dinner. The feedback that you gave us was awesome and I am sure that we will take that to the next food challenge we come across.

Thank you for taking all the photos on the cave walk. If you didn't we wouldn't remember what we did while caving. Thank you for sending the photos to Mrs Love so we can see the awesome pictures you took.

Once again thank you for coming to camp, you were a great role model. Rimu Love really appreciated you as a parent at Camp Kaitawa.

Yours sincerely
Hugh

I wish my teacher knew....

This week we did a task called I wish my teacher knew.. We had to think deeply about this task because we had to write something that our homeroom teacher did not know.

Thinking task

Read the sentence below. Think deeply about your answer.

Make sure your answer is something that your teacher does not already know!

Add it to the tracking sheet when you are finished.

I wish my teacher knew that....I don't get that much time to do homework because of all the activities we do.

1919 24 June

News Reporter Interviews New Zealand Soldier

On the 24th of June 1919 news reporter John Harvey Interviewed a young New Zealand soldier Albert Asher that had just returned from the war in Gallipoli. Albert says that it was one of the most frightening time of his life." I was scared even getting on to the boat," He tells us. " I thought it would be awesome otherwise I would have thought a bit more about it" He says. Asher says "Living in the trenches is worse than you can possibly imagine. When you listen all you hear are gunshots, screams and footsteps. When you smell you sent the dead bodies blood and mud. When you peek up from your trench you can only see men, guns, explosions, mud, barb wires, blood, dead bodies and all kinds of things.”

This is what a news article should look like.

Rhino Report

The rhinoceros is an endangered but still living animal. They are mammals and are comprehensive animals. They live in Africa and Southern Asia but are spread right across the world in zoos.

Appearance

The rhinoceros is a mammal and is very big.  There are 5 species of rhino; the white rhino, black rhino, greater one-horned rhino, sumatran rhino and javan rhino. The bigger rhinos weigh about 3500 kgs but otherwise they are around 1000 kgs. The other animals are scared of the rhino because they have thick protective skin so when the other animals try to attack it does not really hurt. The rhino's horn is made out of keratin which is actually what our hair is made out of.

Diet

The Rhino eats two hundred different types of food. They are herbivores which means they only eat leaves and plants. They mainly eat grass and bark.

Natural Habitat

The rhino has very few predators but their biggest one is humans because bad people hunt them down. 3 - 5 rhino species are critically endangered because of humans. The rhino lives in places like the rainforest and grassy plains. They live in 21 parts of Africa and some parts of southern Asia.

Behaviour

Rhinos like to roll in mud and dust, for them its like a bath. Rhino's like to be 5km away from water even though they don't sweat. To make a burrow the rhino uses their horns. They eat at night and rest at day even though they are not nocturnal. An ox-pecker is a type of bird that lands on the rhino and eats bugs.  A group of rhinos is called a herd or a crash.

Rhino's are a critically endangered animal because humans like to hunt them down. This is a bad thing because rhinos are a really cool animal. Rhino's live in Africa and Southern Asia. People cut their horns off for wishbones.

Street art

This is street art that Ezra and I made as our reading task.
We did this because it was an activity for a book that we read called painting the town. It was about an artist painting Christchurch.
