Rugby World Cup Independent Tasks


Over the past few weeks we have been learning about the Rugby World Cup 2015. One of our learning tasks was that we had to choose three or more out of seven rugby tasks. Some involved maths, literacy and all kinds of cool ways to learn. I chose to do this because I was very proud and pleased with my work.

Celebration:  Waitangi Day (6 February) . Odd Fact:The longest place name in the world is Taumatawhakatangihangakoauauotamateapokaiwhenuakitanatahu, a hill in Hawkes Bay.

Team Name: Wallabies.  Captain: Stephen Moore.   Population:  23 Million.  Capital: Canberra.  Famous Landmark: Sydney Opera House.  Celebrity: Hugh Jackman.  Celebration: Sorry Day and the Stolen Generations (26 May). Odd Fact:  The biggest property in Australia is bigger than Belgium.


South Africa. Team Name: Springboks.  Captain:  Fourie Du Preez. Population: 52 million. Capital :Pretoria.  Famous Landmark:  Table Mountain.  Celebrity: JRR Tolkien.  Celebration: Heritage Day (24 September).  Odd Fact: South Africa has the cheapest electricity in the world.


Japan. Team Name: Cherry Blossoms.  Captain: Michael Leitch.  Population: 127.3 million. Capital: Tokyo. Landmark: Mt Fuji.  Celebrity: Fumiaki Tanaka.  Celebration: Japanese New Year (1 January). Odd Fact: Japan is home to many different forms of martial arts. Karate, Judo, Sumo, Ninjutsu, Kendo, Jujutsu, and Aikido


France. Team Name: Les Bleuets. Captain: Thierry Dusautoir. Population: 66 million.  Capital: Paris. Landmark: The Louvre. Celebrity: Napoleon III. Celebration: Bastille Day (14 July). Odd Fact: France is the most visited country in the world: 83 million tourists in 2012.

Capital: London. Famous Landmark: Big Ben. Celebrity: Daniel Craig. Celebration: The Queen's Birthday. Odd Fact : England Includes many small Islands such as the Isle of Wight and Hayling Island.


Scotland.  Team Name: Thistles. Captain: Greig Laidlaw.  Population: 5.3 million. Capital: Edinburgh. Famous Landmark: Edinburgh Castle. Celebrity: Andy Murray. Celebration: Burns Night (25 January). Odd Fact: Scotland has over 300 railway stations.


Argentina. Team Name: Pumas. Captain: Agustin Creevy. Population: 43 million.
Capital: Buenos Aires. Famous Landmark: Christ The Redeemer. Celebrity: Lionel Messi. Celebration: Carnival (2015: 16 February). Odd Fact: The Dogo Argentino Dog, home to Argentina, can take down a fully grown puma.    

Georgia. Team Name: The Lelos. Captain: Mamuka Gorgodze. Population: 3,729,500.
Capital: Tbilisi. Famous Landmark: An architect's dream. Celebrity: Mamuka Gorgodze.
Celebration: Ninooba (1 June). Odd Fact: The ethnic Georgians call themselves Kartvelebi.


Tonga. Team Name: Ikale Tahi. Captain: Nili Latu. Population: 103,036. Capital: Nuku'alofa. Famous Landmark: Ha'amonga 'a Maui. Celebrity: Konrad Hurrell. Celebration: Heilala (4 July). Odd Fact: Tongans bathe regularly, but their favorite way to bathe is in the rain.
